Market update

Gold Holds Near One-Month Low Ahead of Federal Reserve Decision
Spot gold was little changed at US$4,300.96 per troy ounce at 9:57 AM Singapore time on 15 September, after touching its lowest level since 7 August during the previous session. Using USD/SGD of 1.2722 at 1:30 PM Singapore time, the underlying pure-gold value was an estimated S$175.92 per gram before retail costs. These are delayed intraday figures rather than closing prices. Gold market report · USD/SGD rate
Markets were heavily pricing a quarter-point Federal Reserve rate increase. Gold’s reaction may depend less on the widely anticipated decision than on whether Fed Chair Kevin Warsh indicates further increases or a more measured approach. Higher rates and US Treasury yields raise the opportunity cost of holding non-interest-bearing bullion, while persistent inflation and geopolitical uncertainty may provide some counter-support.
For Singapore retailers, the stronger US dollar partly offsets gold’s international decline when prices are converted into SGD. Recheck both gold and USD/SGD after the Federal Reserve’s announcement before adjusting displayed prices, replenishing inventory or confirming large quotations. Prices may change throughout the day and exclude retailer premiums, workmanship charges and spreads.
